The goal of storage

Good storage aims to preserve physical integrity and minimise unwanted chemical and moisture changes before roasting.

Temperature and humidity

Heat and changing humidity can accelerate deterioration and moisture exchange. Stable, moderate conditions are generally preferable to large environmental swings.

Packaging

Jute, GrainPro-type barrier bags and other packaging systems are used according to supply-chain requirements. Barrier packaging can reduce moisture and odour exchange compared with traditional woven sacks.

Ageing

Green coffee does not remain unchanged indefinitely. Storage time, oxygen, moisture, temperature, packaging and the coffee's initial condition all influence how it develops.
